In short. We ask for a Google account so we know who you are, and we keep your conversations on our servers so they can be delivered to every phone you sign in on. We do not sell data, we do not show ads, and we do not build a profile of you.
The Meow Messenger app and service are operated by Synergy Power Inc. You can write to us at ceo@synergygrowing.online — the same address handles account deletion requests.
Signing in is possible only through Google. From Google we receive your email address, your name and a link to your avatar — and nothing beyond that. Your Google password never reaches us.
People find each other by username, email address or phone number. Email and phone lookups run against cryptographic fingerprints rather than the values themselves, and only on an exact match, so that search cannot be turned into a way of enumerating other people’s contacts. The address and the number themselves are still stored in your profile.
The text of your messages, along with reactions and requests, is stored on our servers for as long as your account exists. That stored copy is what rebuilds your conversations on a new phone or after a reinstall, so we do not delete it on a timer. The way to have it removed is to ask us to delete your account.
Voice notes and photos work differently. Their bytes are deleted from the server as soon as every recipient’s device confirms that it has saved them, and automatically after 30 days if no confirmation ever arrives. What remains in the conversation afterwards is the record of the message itself — for example “voice note, 0:07”.
Your messages are protected in transit (HTTPS). They are stored on our servers in a form that we are technically able to read: there is no end-to-end encryption today. We would rather say that plainly than hide it behind the word “secure”.
Audio calls run directly between devices. Our server only takes part in setting up the connection; it receives neither the audio nor any recording of it. We do not record calls.
To get a notification to your phone we pass Apple or Google a device identifier and a minimal payload — at most the sender’s name. The text of the message is not sent to them; the app fetches it on your phone.
Only with the services we cannot run without: the cloud hosting and database where your messages live, and the Apple and Google push notification services. We do not sell or hand data to advertisers, data brokers or analytics networks — there are none in the app.
The service is not intended for children under 13.
You can ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it by writing to the address above: your profile, your messages, and any media still stored are removed. You can also ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, or ask us to correct it. Signing out on your phone does not delete anything — your messages come back the next time you sign in.
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of the page.
